Gayatri grew up in various Air Force stations across India, with a schooling experience that took her to a dozen different schools. A degree in Computer Engineering led to a 7-year career at an International Bank in Singapore and New York. After a short stint at the International Center for Photography, she relocated to India to take up photography. Based out of Chennai, where she lives with her husband and four dogs, she shoots weddings and portraits. Gayatri is a founding trustee of the CPB Foundation which oversees the Chennai Photo Biennale, a bi-annual event that attracts 100,000 visitors. In 2017, she worked with the Goethe Institut Chennai to coordinate the DAMned ART Project. She is currently at work on the second edition of the Biennale, scheduled for Feb 22 to Mar 24 2019 as Director of Operations and is a core member of the executive committee.
