Keremane Shridhar Hegde

Working Member + Yakshagana & Performing Artist • Idagunji Mandali • male

Being brought up in a strong cultural environment of art, music and literature, I was initiated to Yakshagana in my early childhood by my grandfather Late Keremane Shambhu Hegde. Along with my schooling I attained training in Yakshagana for more than 8 years in Shrimaya Yakshagana Kalakendra, our Yakshagana training centre in the village. Since then I have been learning under my Father Keremane Shivananda Hegde and performing all over India with our artists' troupe. I have been passionate about dance-dramas and had an inquisitive mind about nature. I did Bachelors in Science from Bangalore University during which I got to learn the dance of Kathak under the guidance of Guru Dr. Maya Rao. After completing BSc., I have worked in several research labs, taken courses at IISER Pune as part of their Integrated PhD program. I did Diploma in Choreography from NIKC, Bangalore which gave me new perspectives for direction an choreography of my own art form. And now I have completely shifted to performances, especially on Yakshagana, beside working for our cultural organisation. My other interests include Cultural Entrepreneurship, Performance Studies, Cultural anthropology, Indology, Cognitive Science, Language, Logic and Literature.
